Uttarakhand’s traditional festival Budi Diwali or Bhudi Diwali “Igas” is celebrated with much fervor across the state.
Igas is celebrated 11 days after Diwali. While some facts say Kunti the mother of the Pandavas, refused to celebrate Diwali after her son Bheem left for the jungle and failed to return for Diwali. He returned 11 days after Diwali, and then the entire family celebrated the festivals, leading to the tradition of Igas.
There are also the facts that read “The news of Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya from exile reached the hilly regions of Kumaon and Garhwal 11 days late. So, the people celebrated the Lord’s victory 11 days after the rest of the country did.”
